LAURA POLLEY
Laura Polley Jewellery is bound in sentiment and connection; to places, people, emotions and memories. Designing and creating contemporary jewellery that encapsulates these connections, using heirloom tools, brings me joy and calm from my home in Cornwall.
Growing up with parents who are cartographers, I developed a love of landscape and outdoors. Contours, undulations and physical geography were always present, as were art, crafts and traditional skills. When old enough to leave home I moved to the landscape I loved most – the coast. Falmouth College of Art was the perfect place to study for my degree and a place I cannot imagine I will ever leave.
My jewellery is crafted using recycled silver, cast into Atlantic seawater. Each piece is unique, with fluid, organic forms that echo water droplets or waves on rocks. I also create and combine textured pieces created by forming silver against granite found on my local beach, further connecting the work to the landscape. Other processes are also incorporated in to my jewellery including keum boo (applying fine gold to silver) for subtle contrast and warmth, in addition to setting semi-precious stones. My collections reflect my deep connection to Cornwall and my passion for craft, coast, and creativity.
